We are a team of three women aviators and friends. We seek to create a brand, which allows young women to envision themselves as engineers. We have made a pledge to make an impact on aspiring female astronauts, scientists and researchers.

Currently, we are in the process of creating our confidence journal for women in aerospace. Soon, we seek to create merchandise such as astronaut pens and graphic tees - all under our titular brand 'I Need Space'.

Here we document our progress in developing our products. We bring forth our best and brightest ideas and ask for feedback. We want you, the consumer, to share with us what you think at every step of the way. Comment on our posts. Help us understand how our products can serve you best.

We’re excited, are you?

Now that we had a product we had to determine not only how to make it, but also to fund it.

Joining the MAKE and LAUNCH programs at CREATE – X was a potential option.

We would be allotted $1500 and technical faculty mentorship through MAKE for a working product. Visiting LegalBuzz, a pro-bono initiative, would ensure we simultaneously cleared any pressing legal issues.

At LAUNCH we would be allotted $2k of seed funding, not to mention, space, mentorship, IP protection and visibility. For this we would need to apply to StartUp Launch 2019.

A quick click on the application led me to a series of questions:

  1. Company Name

  2. Company Website

  3. Number of Co-founders

  4. Member Information

  5. Our Motivations

  6. Our Exposure to Startups

  7. Past Entrepreneurial Program Participation

  8. Team Dynamics

To do justice to this application Sarajane, Sanjana and I have enrolled in MAKE and we have our sights set next for LAUNCH. Having ideated using materials from CREATE we believe we have the potential to inspire future astronauts and change-makers. This blog has covered various components of the StartUp Launch application but we have more to learn.

Given that the program is competitive in nature we have additionally given thought to other Angel Investors. For example, Space Angels is a viable option.

Their noteworthy portfolio includes Planet, a firm that Sarajane and I have followed given her enthusiasm for CubeSats and mine for emergency management, ever since the MH370 disappearance.

Regardless of which option serves us first, we have pledged to follow through with our commitment to make an impact on potential female astronauts.

What do you think? Let us know.
